We were out testing the new work Homing in Preston yesterday. We’re using estimote ibeacons to specify different zones in the flag market and the Harris Museum, and an app that will play different audio files in specific zones. The external locations could have been done with GPS, but using ibeacons means that the experience can flow between internal and external spaces.

We were looking for places to put the ibeacons that are not visible in the space, that won’t damage stone or painted surfaces. It is harder to get a strong reading from one beacon if it  overlaps with the next – the app doesn’t know which one to lock onto and which set of audio files to select from. So its quite tricky to create the kind of coverage we need for the work.  Still a lot of audio editing and testing to do for the app next week.
