The holly hedge. A pilot crashed into a holly tree when doing a forced landing here in 1942 due to bad weather. Not sure if this is the exact spot, but again it’s at the edge of the Cheshire plain just before the hills and to my right is a relatively flat field that might be the one he chose.

Just got to the top of the hedge at long lane, out of breath, it really was the last field to land in.

  1. I just went back to re-read an email and I was mistaken, this crash was from the 1930’s – a plane flying from Woodford, something I need to follow up in the local papers archive.
